Eating Disorders
We've gathered helpful resources on eating disorders to give you a better understanding of these challenges. These resources are here to support individuals in talking openly about eating disorders, and to help identify the support and treatment options that are available in the UK.
We've signposted some professional resources and support below. Read more about eating disorders and other mental health conditions in our Behind the Wheel series (Eating Disorder article coming soon).
Beat
Beat, the UK’s leading charity for eating disorders, offers a lifeline to those affected by providing a range of support services. They operate national helplines for adults, young people, and students, and offer online services including message boards, chat facilities, and support groups. Additionally, they have a HelpFinder directory to locate local support, and provide peer support through telephone-based programs.
The Mental Health Foundation
The Mental Health Foundation website offers a wealth of information on understanding eating disorders, including symptoms, causes, and treatments. It also provides resources for support and recovery, including guidance on how to talk about eating disorders, tips for supporting someone, and links to further services and information.
The NHS
The NHS offers a detailed overview of eating disorders on their site, providing essential information on various types of eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia, binge eating disorder (BED), and other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED). The site explains the symptoms, causes, and effects of these disorders.
