Anxiety
Anxiety is a typical response to stress, causing feelings of concern or uneasiness. Whilst it is a common occurrence and affects everyone to varying degrees, there are multiple different types of anxiety to be aware of.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterised by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and sometimes emotional dysregulation, that can impair daily functioning and development in adults if left undiagnosed from childhood.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition, manifesting differently in each individual. It's often referred to as a "spectrum" because of the wide variation in the type and severity of symptoms individuals experience.
Bipolar
Bipolar disorder involves extreme changes between manic episodes (elevated mood, high energy, impulsivity) and depressive episodes (profound sadness, negative thought cycles, low energy), and can vary in severity.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) impacts the way you think and feel about yourself and others. It is often characterised by difficulty in regulating emotions, unstable self-image, and intense relationships. Read more here.
Dementia
Dementia encompasses a range of progressive neurological conditions impacting cognitive abilities like memory, reasoning, language, and judgment. It can result from various underlying causes, such as Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia, among others.
Depression
Depression is defined by an enduring sense of sadness, lack of interest, and diminished pleasure in different activities. It is a condition that can be experienced by anyone, and the symptoms will differ from individual to individual.
Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions and can affect people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Common types of eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and other specified feeding and eating disorders (OSFED).
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterised by intrusive, unwanted thoughts or obsessions, and repetitive behaviours or compulsions aimed at reducing anxiety or distress.
Phobias
Phobias come in different forms, and are a common type of anxiety disorder characterised by an intense and irrational fear of specific objects, situations, or activities. They can significantly impact mental health, leading to distress, impairment in daily functioning, and avoidance behaviours.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can emerge following exposure to a traumatic event, whether witnessed or experienced first-hand. Symptoms can manifest immediately or appear after a delay of weeks or months.
Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a mental health disorder characterised by disruptions in thought processes, perceptions, emotions, and behaviour. Without support and understanding, Schizophrenia can significantly impact an individual's ability to function in daily life.
